Medfield Mite A Champions
by posted 04/23/2012

Medfield Mite A Team capped off their season this past weekend by winning the title in their championship game.  Over the past 3 seasons of mite hockey for these kids, they have participated in over 250 practices and games.  It was all capped off with a dramatic 5-4 double overtime victory.

After killing off a 2-minute and 45 second 4 on 3 at the start of the second overtime, Hannah Macleod took a pass from Sean McNeeley at center ice and scored the game winner, her second of the game.

In true championship fashion - chaos ensued with gloves, sticks and helmets littering the ice as the kids swarmed their goalie, Aidan Parker, who turned in an outstanding effort between the pipes.

Front: Aidan Parker - Second Row:  Hannah Macleod, Sam Palmer, Brenna Smith, Jack Kelly, Brendan Kirk, Nicholas McNeeley, Charlie Walsh - Third Row:  Phillip Parker, Jared Hirschfeld, Michael Govini, Tyler Marshall, Brendan Melley and Kelly Morrison - Back row (L-R): Coaches Gerard Walsh, John Smith, Scott Govoni, and John Kelly.

Medfield Girls U14 Hockey wins Championship

The Medfield U14 girls hockey team won the Middlesex Yankee U14 Girls Conference Saturday night with a 3-0 over rival Norwood.  To reach the finals, the girls had to battle through 3 rounds of playoffs.

In the first round the girls were down 2-1 going into the third period then, they scored 3 goals to win it 4-2.   Meredith Cox and Julia MacLean each scoring 2 goals.  Grace Crowell, Alexander Papantonis and Emily Ruzzo tallying assists.  Skylar Flynn and Abby Carlson playing strong defense.

In the second round, again the girls found themselves down 2-1 going into the second period against a strong Andover team.  They scored 3 goals in the second period and 1 more in the third to win 5-2.  Meredith Cox scored a hat trick, Ellie Branka scoring a goal and an assist, Sadie Durham with a goal, Grace Crowell with 4 assists.  Solid play was seen by Emily Parker, Kathleen O’Connor and Caroline Davenport.

The finals were against a strong Norwood squad who had beaten Medfield two weeks earlier.  It was a defensive battle until Medfield scored midway through the second period.  Medfield scored 2 more in the third for a 3-0 win.  Grace Crowell had 2 goals, Meredith Cox a goal and an assist and Ellie Branka and Alexander Papantonis an assist.  Emily Ruzzo and Julia MacLean were strong on defense helping Athena Papantonis (MVP for Medfield) record a shutout and her 3rd victory in the playoffs for the championship.    The Medfield girls program is still a young program, only in existence for a few years, and this is a great tribute to all the girls and volunteers who have worked with the girls through the years to build this program.

Search for the app on your smartphone with keywords "Leagueathletics"

NOTE:
There are 2 apps.

1. Leagueathletics Mobile Fan - FREE
This app is described above and is for parents who want to look at the schedule for their player.  It is better than using a browser on your phone.

2. Leagueathletics Mobile -$5
The app is for league administrators or coaches who want to enter scores or send an email to parents from their phone.  You can read my review of the app in the iphone's app store.  My alias is "Make it Fun 88", and the review is now listed in position 6.  Probably not worth it for most admin/coaches.

Directions for registering with USA Hockey
by posted 04/01/2011

All families will need to register their players and coaches with USA Hockey and enter their USA Hockey number into their registration on our MYH website.

As of 9/24/11:
Cost is $30 per player for those born 2004 or earlier.
Cost is free for those those born 2005 or after.

Below are the instructions should you need them:

Steps for completing USA Hockey Registration:

1.  Go to the USA Hockey Registration website:  http://www.usahockeyregistration.com/  and choose ice players & coaches option.

2. Follow the instructions and complete the registration for your player.  If you are coach, you must also register.  The cost is $35 per person. (For Players 6 years old and younger there is NO charge.)  You may register multiple players and coaches by following the instructions.

3. Once you have completed the USA Hockey registration, you will receive a USA confirmation with your number via email.  Please Note:  each year USA Hockey issues a new number - so it will not be the same as last year.

4.  Next, log into your account in the Medfield Youth Hockey website by choosing the  “Edit My Account” menu tab which is located on the lower left hand side of the main page of the website.

5.  Click on the name of the player or coach. This will open their profile.

6.  In the middle of the page, you will see “USA Hockey Confirmation # “.  Enter the confirmation number you received from USA Hockey. (please double check that it is typed correctly).  If there is already a number entered from last year, replace the old number with your new confirmation #.

7. Click on Submit.  Repeat steps 5-7 for all your family’s players and coaches.

The process may sound long, but it should take no more than 5 to 10 minutes to register with USA Hockey and then complete the steps to update your account.

Please Note:  This is a requirement mandated by USA Hockey for all youth hockey programs in the country.  It was put into effect in 2009.  USA Hockey no longer allows programs to register players on their behalf.  A parent or guardian of a player must complete the USA Hockey registration.

Those players who have not registered with USA Hockey and have not entered their numbers into their MYH registration will not be able to practice or play with their team until registration is complete, and may become ineligible to play in state playdown tournaments.
